Defining Disability:
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as follows:
… disability is an evolving concept and that disability results from the interaction between persons with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinders their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
Our focus is inclusion, access and participation.
In defiance of the law that there are legal disability definitions as described in the disability discrimination act, the purpose of this plan is to remove barriers and provide equality, justice which enables us to reach ourselves.
We must focus on our vision and strategic plan everywhere.
This also allows us to take actions that are consistent with our goals and fulfill our pledges.
Global Disability Foundation ‘GDF’ has a variety of material support and moral inclusive values.
The Statistics of Disabilities:
According to the World Health Organization, there are 5 disability groups and 15% of the world population is estimated to be disabled. (One Billion Disabled )
The Group of Disabilities:
- 1. Mentally Disabled
- 2. Visually Impaired
- 3. Hearing and Speech Impaired
- 4. Physically Disabled
- 5. Chronic disabilities (Chronic diseases and advanced age)
Situation in Turkey: According to State institute of Statistics, (DIE) 12.29% of Turkey’s population is disabled. This translates to 9 million 832 thousand out of a total population of 80 million. The disability rate for men is 11.10% (4 million 321 thousand 197)while the one for women stands at13.45% (5 million 510 thousand 803).
Percentage Of Disabled People::
- ● People with orthopaedic disabilities 1.5%
- ● People with visually impairment 60 out of 1000 people
- ● People with hearing impairment 37 out of 1000 people
- ● People with mental disabilities 38 out of 1000 people
- ● People with speech impairment 48 out of 1000 people
- ● People with chronic disabilities 9.70%
- ● People with multiple disabilities 11.4%
- The rate of subsequent occurence of the disability was found to be very high in all the disability groups.
Employment opportunities for people with disabilities:
Adjustment and development of a present or future situation in support of the disabled people is possible with integrated and inclusive approaches. The arrangements to be made should be accurate, realistic and must be based on cognisance. Lack of education and qualification negatively impacts the employment opportunities and dignity of people with dissabilities. Statistics show that 1 out of every 3 people with disabilities do not meet demand of the customers and they are significantly underpresented in the workforce due to lack of interpersonal skills. Estimating and meeting the needs of the people with disabilities and their families in advance such as the quality of care report which reflects to hospital experience criteria is critical in achieving excellent clinical outcomes and family unity. Statistics on employment difficulties for people with disability suggest that there is a widespread continuous community problem.
